Female farmer Eunice and cowboy Felix are from Kenya and hope to run their way out of poverty. With the help of their German manager, they take part in marathons across Europe. Each of those popular sporting events comes with lucrative prize money. If they win, they can escape poverty back home, and their German manager Volker Wagner gets a part of the action too. He invests in travel, housing, training and medical care in the hope that the prize money not only covers his cost but brings in a profit. Volker Wagner was once among the first to develop the transfer of Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes to European running contests. But others have adopted and perfected his model. At the time of filming, he has been making a loss for a period of 10 years. Will Eunice and Felix turn things around? Volker, his family and the athletes are connected in a dense network of interdependencies in which each individual decision has repercussions on the entire group. And Volker's wife Natalia is getting sick of her husband's commercial failure.
