Die Abfahrer

Adventure/Comedy, Germany 1978

Dortmund, late 1970s. It's the era of needles in cheeks, and the Ruhr region is home to Europe's largest urban sprawl. Some people sit around all day playing dice, knowing full well that it's a dead-end life. Others lie in their windows with pillows, watching other people lying in their windows with pillows. How are they supposed to live? Atze Lutz and Sulli quickly go over the agenda in their backyard shack. Their parents are playing family, the neighbors aren't doing any better, they just stare as if they've got the plague. Suddenly, the red moving truck is in the street. The moving company pros are having problems. Now or never. Atze organizes the truck for us. We'll just drive off and do it. Maybe just around the block or at 100 mph on the highway. First, just get going. They quickly arrange with the girl they pick up at the gas station that it's not theft, but a work assignment. But anyone who takes off and races through the woods with furniture has to expect that not all eyewitnesses are blind. Especially not the neighbors, who saw exactly what they would like to do themselves but can't. Make dreams come true, take risks, go for it yourself.
