One of the world's most radioactively contaminated areas is located in Russia's South Ural region. It is inhabited. The film tells the story of the people who live here, literally in the middle of nowhere, unknown to world. Hardly anyone even knows that this region was repeatedly irradiated by various accidents of the nuclear facility MAYAK. MAYAK was the first plant to produce fissile material for nuclear weapons in the Soviet Union - and it is still operating. Following in the footsteps of Nikolaus Geyrhalter (PRIPYAT), the filmmakers are seeking to find a cinematic translation for a mortal danger that humans cannot perceieve without the help of a technical device. The film also shows the attitudes that locals developed in the face of the plant and a government that does not care.
