As expected, the oak belongs to the Superalten Club. It ranks third on our ranking of the oldest tree species. For the animal world, it is the tree of trees. No other grove offers so many living things home and food. In the past, domestic pigs were even driven into the forest especially for acorn fattening. An old oak tree is a universe in itself. Over 350 different insects alone live on and from this tree species. No other tree is surrounded by myths as much as the oak. The bizarre details of old specimens stimulate the imagination. Sacred oak near Marburg, Sankt-Wolfgang-Eiche near Schloss Haus, Storcheneiche in Stremlow, Kreuzeichene near Hürbel - these are just a few of the many mighty oaks that we visit on our trip.
