Oscar is young, creative, in love with his fantasy film-influenced art and has a huge problem: he lives in the deepest backwater of Newfoundland alone with his oddball father. Every now and then he puts make-up on his best friend Gemma and tries to cope with a traumatic experience from his childhood, which always reminds him that it can be dangerous to live openly gay in this town. On the side, the sensitive teenager works at a hardware store, where he meets the rebellious and rakishly attractive Wilder, who would rather smoke joints than sort screws.
