What happens when you suddenly find yourself a single father overnight? When his girlfriend Emma (Lia von Blarer) dies unexpectedly, Metin (Max Mauff) finds himself in exactly this extreme situation. From now on, he is alone with his young daughter Lene. The young man from Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg struggles through everyday life, trying to juggle his child, household, and job. To make matters worse, his mother (Lina Wendel) stubbornly pushes her way back into his life... “MaPa,” a combination of Mama and Papa, is the first German “sadcom”: sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes dramatic, then completely over the top again, but always honest. In six touching and absurd episodes, everything revolves around the big questions of life: How do you cope with life alone with a child? What does it mean to raise a child? And how the hell do parents manage it all? “Von Kindern und Klobürsten” (Of Children and Toilet Brushes) – DIE ZEIT's reasoning for selecting it as one of the 10 best series of 2020: "MaPa is unconventional, yet thoroughly entertaining, striking a balance between major and minor keys. It even dares to do what few miniseries do: devote an entire episode to a minor character—in this case, a bicycle shop owner who initially appears to Metin as a wonderful surrogate father, but ultimately proves to be just as flawed as a real father. Above all, however, MaPa is a touching and realistic portrayal of grief. How easily the past is romanticized, how perfect family life looks in the photo retrospective on a smartphone. But every flashback shows that not everything was ideal for this small family. And it is precisely this realization that ultimately leads to a kind of healing." (Caroline Ströbele) What happens when you become a single father from one day to the next? Metin Müller finds himself in precisely this extreme situation. When his girlfriend Emma dies unexpectedly, he is left alone with his young daughter Lene. The young man from Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg gets by in everyday life, more or less. Metin spends his 30th birthday alone with his daughter, until Lene's favorite toy, a toilet brush, goes missing from the playground...
